About The Position
Performs various tasks in a landfill including containing loose refuse to prevent scattering and directing traffic at the landfill. This role involves manual labor, operating machinery, and interacting with the public and drivers.
Requirements
- Licenses as required by Local, State, Federal, Environmental and/or Health/Safety Regulatory agencies.
Responsibilities
- Manually picks up windblown paper from the periphery of the landfill, carrying a large plastic trash bag and walking along the fenced border and adjacent land.
- Uses a mobile vacuum to gather loose paper and refuse, driving a tractor pulling the vacuum along the landfill border and adjacent land, and guiding the vacuum hose.
- Directs traffic at the landfill entrance during peak summer months, communicating with drivers verbally or by hand signals.
- Lifts construction materials such as lumber and bags of concrete mix, and uses hand tools like shovels, picks, axes, and chain saws for site maintenance.
- Manually separates metal, white goods, lumber, and cardboard from trash on the tipping floor at landfills with a transfer station.
