The Department of Conservation and Recreation seeks applicants for Laborer II, Southwest Corridor Park, Boston Region. This role performs various manual labor tasks, which may require some specialized skill, to assist in the work of skilled tradesmen and craftsmen such as carpenters, plumbers and masons. The position involves performing various manual tasks in connection with the installation of drainage, sewer and/or water pipelines of conduits, such as positioning, joining and sealing pipe sections and culverts, erecting and removing shoring and bracing for trenches and excavations. The role also includes digging trenches and similar excavations, refilling excavations, and spreading and leveling dirt, gravel, and other materials to grade using a pick and shovel. Additionally, the Laborer II will set and repair curbing, patch broken or eroded pavement by breaking surface and mixing and applying paving materials, and install, repair, and maintain signs. Planting, transplanting, pruning, trimming, and fertilizing trees, flowers, and shrubs, seeding lawns and gardens, spraying for insects and plant diseases, and performing related tasks such as cutting grass, raking leaves, and watering are also part of the duties. The position requires loading and unloading trucks, unpacking and storing supplies and equipment, and taking inventories. The Laborer II will operate hand-held power tools, tapping machines, and rodding machines, as well as operate motor vehicles including light vehicles and trucks. Salaries are based upon full-time/40 hours worked per week. Work schedules and days off are at the discretion of the Supervisor. This position may require working weekends and/or holidays.
