About The Position

This is a full-time, hourly position at the Corn Plant in Decatur, IL. The entry-level role is designed to train new technicians on each of the four analytical aisles in the QC laboratory. Responsibilities include preparing process and finished product samples, performing analytical testing using instrumental and wet chemistry procedures, and recording results using computerized data systems. Successful completion of training on each aisle is required before transitioning to the Laboratory Technician I position. The role also emphasizes safety, including completing plant and laboratory safety orientations, working safely to prevent injuries, reacting immediately to hazards, reporting accidents and near misses, performing safety audits, and completing safety engagements. The position requires willingness and ability to work within a 24/7/365 operation, sufficient math skills for calculations, ability to accept instruction and coaching, and computer skills. Other duties may be assigned by quality department management.

Requirements

• 8-hour rotating shifts.
• Flexibility to work overtime as needed.
• Must be available to work weekends, holidays, overtime, and 8-12 hour shifts when scheduled.
• Solid understanding of a laboratory environment.
• Working knowledge of cGMP, FDA, and other regulatory requirements.
• Completion of a college science lab is preferred.
• Experience in lieu of college laboratory experience will be considered on a case by case basis.
• Successful completion of a background check.

Nice To Haves

• Familiarity with Laboratory Instrumentation including HPLC, GC, and IC is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Prepare process and finished product samples.
• Perform analytical testing using instrumental and wet chemistry procedures.

• Complete training on each analytical aisle in the QC laboratory.
• Complete plant and laboratory safety orientations.
• Work safely to prevent on-the-job injuries by complying with all department and plant safety policies.
• React immediately to eliminate any hazards, unsafe equipment and/or acts.
• Report any accidents, injuries and near misses immediately to area supervision.
• Perform at least one Laboratory Safety audit per month.
• Complete a minimum of 3 safety engagements each month.
• Work within the time demands of a 24/7/365 workday operation.
• Perform calculations associated with lab testing.
• Accept instruction, coaching, and constructive criticism.
• Utilize computer skills.
• Perform other duties as assigned by quality department management.
