Laboratory Technician C - Geochemistry
About The Position
AGAT Laboratories is seeking a Laboratory Technician C - Geochemistry to join their dynamic, purpose-driven team. This role involves performing basic laboratory procedures, including sample preparation, reagent preparation, and transferring gases. The technician will also be responsible for crushing rocks and sediments, weighing samples on a microbalance, filtering water samples, and performing basic wet chemistry. The position requires working in a fume hood with solvents and handling sour samples. General lab support, meeting quality assurance specifications, and adhering to Standard Operating Procedures are also key aspects of the role. Requirements
- Post-secondary education with a Technical Diploma or Degree required.
- 0-2 years previous laboratory experience.
- An understanding of the principles of chemistry and preferably geochemistry.
- This could be experience with natural gases, oils, oil industry experience, etc.
- Unit conversion concepts.
- Proficiency using Microsoft Office programs such as Excel.
- Mature work ethic, with the ability to work in a positive manner in a fast-paced environment.
- Problem solving, communication, organization, and time management.
- Fluency in English, both verbal and written.
- Ability to lift 25+ pounds on a consistent basis and perform work in a hot environment.
Nice To Haves
- Experience using a high precision microbalance for weighing samples is an asset.
Responsibilities
- Perform basic laboratory procedures including preparation of samples, reagents and calibration solutions
- Transferring gases from cylinders to sample bags
- Crushing rocks and sediments
- Weighing samples on a micro balance
- Filtering water samples and basic benchtop wet chemistry
- Working in a fume hood with solvents such as toluene, hexane, etc.
- Handling sour (H2S) samples (gases, oils, and water)
- Provide general lab support including washing glassware, cleaning workstations and waste disposal
- Meet quality assurance and turn around time specifications
- Follow all Quality Control and Standard Operating Procedures
- Other duties as assigned
