About The Position

Inova Central Lab is seeking a Laboratory Technician Assistant 2 for its Patient Service Center (PSC). This is a full-time, day-shift role scheduled Monday through Friday. The position prepares and manages specimens, performs patient registration and billing procedures, collects and labels specimens, and provides patient and customer service in accordance with Inova policies and laboratory protocols.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of phlebotomy training, documented by a completion certificate from a phlebotomy program or another Allied Health training program such as Medical Assistant, Medical Lab Technician, or Medical Technologist.
• One year of experience in a Patient Service Center environment, or at least six months in an Inova Patient Service Center. This requirement may also be met by successfully completing the Inova Phlebotomy School.
• Basic Life Support certification within three months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, store, and package specimens for transport according to laboratory protocols while preserving specimen integrity and quality.
• Communicate and work cooperatively with Inova coworkers, physicians and office staff, care facility staff and leaders, and government facility staff and leaders.
• Accurately and efficiently perform patient registration, billing, and test-order procedures to support correct testing, reporting, billing, and regulatory compliance.
• Collect specimens properly and promptly, confirm patient identity, use appropriate tubes and venipuncture or capillary techniques, and label specimens according to Inova policy.
• Provide excellent patient and customer service using AIDET principles, ensuring technical information and directions provided to customers are correct and appropriate.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
