Laboratory Technician Assistant 2 PSC
About The Position
Inova OB/Primary Care Offices is seeking a part-time Laboratory Technician Assistant 2 PSC for its Gainesville, Virginia location. The position works a day shift, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The role supports laboratory testing by preparing, storing, and packaging specimens; collecting and labeling specimens; and accurately completing patient registration, billing, and test-order procedures. It also provides patient and customer service and works with Inova colleagues, medical offices, and care and government facilities to support effective operations. Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent and completed phlebotomy or another specified allied health training program. The role requires relevant Patient Service Center experience or successful completion of Inova Phlebotomy School, and Basic Life Support certification within three months of hire.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of phlebotomy training, with a completion certificate from a phlebotomy program or another allied health training program such as Medical Assistant, Medical Lab Technician, or Medical Technologist.
- One year of experience in a Patient Service Center environment or at least six months in an Inova Patient Service Center; this requirement may also be met by successfully completing Inova Phlebotomy School.
- Basic Life Support certification within three months of hire.

Responsibilities
- Prepare, store, and package specimens for transport according to laboratory protocols while preserving specimen integrity and quality.
- Communicate and cooperate with Inova coworkers, physicians, physician-office administration and staff, care-facility staff and leadership, and government-facility staff and leaders.
- Accurately and efficiently perform patient registration, billing, and test-order procedures to support correct testing and reporting, billing, and regulatory compliance.
- Collect specimens properly and promptly, confirm patient identity, use appropriate tubes and venipuncture or capillary techniques, and label specimens according to Inova policy.
- Provide excellent patient and customer service using AIDET principles and ensure technical information and directions provided to customers are correct and appropriate.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
