Laboratory Technician Assistant 2 PSC
About The Position
Inova OB Office is seeking a Laboratory Technician Assistant 2 to work at Inova OB at Hamaker Ct in Merrifield, Fairfax, and Inova OB at Falls Church, alternating between the two locations. This is a full-time day-shift role, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The position supports laboratory testing by preparing, storing, and packaging specimens; collecting and labeling specimens; completing patient registration, billing, and test-order procedures; and providing patient and customer service. The role requires effective collaboration with coworkers, physicians, office staff, and care and government facility personnel.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of phlebotomy training, with a completion certificate from a phlebotomy program or another allied health training program such as Medical Assistant, Medical Lab Technician, or Medical Technologist.
- One year of experience in a Patient Service Center environment, or at least six months in an Inova Patient Service Center. This requirement may also be met by successfully completing the Inova Phlebotomy School.
- Basic Life Support certification within three months of hire.

- Knowledge of specialty tests ordered by physicians and nurse practitioners.

Responsibilities
- Prepare, store, and package specimens for transport according to laboratory protocols while preserving specimen integrity and quality.
- Communicate and cooperate effectively with Inova coworkers, physicians, physician office administration and staff, care facility staff and leadership, and government facility staff and leaders.
- Perform patient registration, billing, and test-order procedures accurately and efficiently to ensure correct testing, reporting, billing, and regulatory compliance.
- Collect specimens properly and on time, confirm patient identity, use venipuncture or capillary techniques, and label specimens accurately according to Inova policy.
- Provide excellent patient and customer service using AIDET principles, and ensure technical information and directions provided to customers are correct and appropriate.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
