About The Position

Responsible to the Cytology Supervisor, the Laboratory Manager, and the Pathologists, the Laboratory Receptionist is responsible for the clerical tasks needed to ensure a well-functioning laboratory. This person also acts as a liaison between clients, laboratory staff, and pathologists. The Laboratory Receptionist performs minor billing and coding tasks. This person must be well organized, an excellent multi-tasker, and must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. This is a TEMPORARY Role anticipated to last 6-8 weeks, to start prior to June 15th. Schedule is Monday-Friday 8am-4pm.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be comfortable using Microsoft Word and Excel.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous secretary, receptionist, transcriptionist, billing, or medical background desired.

Responsibilities

  • Organize and prepare requisition forms.
  • Receive, distribute, and send mail.
  • Faxing, copying, scanning, and printing.
  • Respond to and create emails.
  • Create laboratory orders using client-provided information.
  • Ensure patient charts are up-to-date and correct.
  • Use Microsoft Word and Excel. Distribute final reports.
  • Enter patient and clinical information into the laboratory’s LIS.
  • Enter billing codes using a reference sheet, when needed.
  • Pull patient demographics from the hospital’s system.
  • Answer and transfer phone calls.
  • Take phone messages and distribute appropriately.
  • Act as a liaison between the pathologists and the laboratory technicians, the clients and the pathologists, the clients and the laboratory technicians.
  • Sort, organize, pull, and file blocks and slides.
  • Maintain courier logs.
  • Take special stain and IHC orders from the pathologists. Communicate these with the lab team.
  • Log, track, and ship oncology specimens.
  • Cross-train as the Laboratory Receiver.
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area.
  • Take inventory of non-lab items, such as office supplies.
  • Unpack and store all non-lab supplies.
  • Maintain a well-stocked, clean break room.
  • Ensure the pathologists’ break area is fully stocked.
