About The Position

Perimeter College is seeking a dedicated and experienced Laboratory Coordinator to support the daily operations of the laboratories and provide direct support to instructional activities. This is a full-time staff position requiring an on-campus presence of 40 hours per week. The role involves implementing laboratory safety procedures, supervising and training laboratory staff and student workers, procuring necessary materials and equipment, maintaining inventories, and managing departmental records. The Laboratory Coordinator also ensures laboratories are prepared for classes and may contribute to course design and development. This position requires collaboration with faculty, staff, and students, and a consistent on-campus presence.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in the assigned research area or; Bachelor's degree in the assigned research area and two years of related experience, or a combination of education and related experience.
  • Ability to trouble shoot problems and effectively communicate with direct supervisors.
  • Ability to lift or move equipment in the lab.

Nice To Haves

  • College teaching experience preferred.
  • Experience with setting up, maintaining and using various lab equipment.
  • Master's degree in Chemistry preferred.
  • Knowledge of tools and equipment needed for the labs, as well as how to safely use them; safety regulations, procedures & practices; current software needed for instruction.
  • Collegiate biology teaching experience.

Responsibilities

  • Teach up to three (3) laboratory courses per semester based on departmental instructional needs.
  • Provide instructional coverage for laboratory courses during temporary faculty absences.
  • Collaborate with faculty course coordinators to develop, coordinate, and maintain laboratory schedules.
  • Order, prepare, and maintain laboratory supplies, materials, and equipment to support weekly laboratory instruction.
  • Develop and maintain current laboratory procedures manuals for laboratory instructors and technicians.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise student assistants and laboratory technicians.
  • Collaborate with other Laboratory Coordinators to promote consistency in laboratory operations across all campuses.
  • Maintain laboratory facilities, ensuring they are clean, organized, well-equipped, and in compliance with safety standards.
  • Oversee the proper storage, maintenance, and organization of laboratory materials and equipment.
  • Coordinate the identification and transfer of obsolete or unused equipment and materials to University Surplus.
  • Coordinate the procurement of laboratory supplies, materials, and equipment, including placing orders, obtaining vendor quotations, securing purchase approvals, and maintaining procurement documentation.
  • Oversee preventive maintenance of laboratory equipment and report equipment failures.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for part-time laboratory instructors, providing guidance and support.
