About The Position

ICON is hiring a part-time, PRN/as-needed Laboratory Assistant to support its fast-paced clinical research laboratory in San Antonio, Texas. The role handles, tracks, stores, and distributes biological specimens, helping maintain sample integrity and accurate documentation throughout the testing process. Work hours are driven by workload and business needs. The lab operates seven days a week, and coverage is typically needed between 6 AM and 3 PM, with weekend availability required. This position is 100% on site.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 0–2 years of experience in a laboratory or related environment, with willingness to learn and develop new skills.
• Basic familiarity with laboratory equipment and techniques.
• Basic computer and documentation skills.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
• Legal right to work in the country where the role is based.
• Weekend availability.

Nice To Haves

• Laboratory, healthcare, specimen processing, or phlebotomy experience.
• Experience with laboratory information systems and specimen tracking.
• Pipetting experience.

Responsibilities

• Receive, organize, and distribute laboratory specimens.
• Prepare and manage samples for testing and analysis.
• Retrieve specimens for add-on testing and laboratory requests.
• Maintain sample storage, inventory, rotation, and disposal processes.
• Transfer specimens to and from long-term storage.
• Monitor specimen tracking and pending reports.
• Maintain accurate documentation and inventory logs.
• Follow laboratory quality, safety, and regulatory procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
