About The Position

Hudson Valley Community College (HVCC) is seeking an experienced, dynamic, capable, creative, and caring individual to join their team as a Laboratory Assistant in the Engineering, Architecture and Manufacturing department. This is a provisional appointment, and the selected candidate will need to pass the next available Rensselaer County Civil Service Exam for Laboratory Assistant to be considered for permanent appointment. The role involves supporting various laboratory functions within the department, including equipment setup, supply management, maintenance, and ensuring the cleanliness and organization of lab spaces. Requirements

  • Graduation from High School or possession of an equivalency diploma and two years of full time paid experience working in a particular kind of scientific or technical laboratory or performing skilled services in the particular technical occupation or trade associated with the specific title.
  • Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate’s Degree in the scientific or technical field indicated in the title.
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience as indicated above.
  • Must currently hold an unrestricted employment authorization to work in the United States.
  • Must be a legal resident of New York State for at least FOUR months immediately preceding the date of the test.
  • Must be eligible to sit for and pass the next available Rensselaer County Civil Service Exam for Laboratory Assistant.

Nice To Haves

  • Preference may be given to successful candidates who have been legal residents of the municipality to which the appointment is to be made for at least FOUR months preceding the date of the written test.

Responsibilities

  • Sets up laboratory equipment for construction, architecture, civil and mechanical engineering technology and other areas within the EAM department when needed.
  • Orders, maintains, and controls inventory of laboratory supplies.
  • Issues lab equipment and supplies to faculty and students, and assists in services for student model making.
  • Prepares and maintains a variety of related records and reports necessary for the department within the labs.
  • Performs preventive maintenance and minor repairs to laboratory equipment.
  • Maintains the cleanliness of laboratories, storage areas, and equipment.
  • Performs related tasks as required.
