About The Position

Southcoast Health is seeking a Laboratory Assistant-Phlebotomist for its Primary Care location in Fairhaven, Massachusetts. Under the general supervision and direction of the Manager, Laboratory Site or designee, the role obtains and processes specimens, performs phlebotomy, maintains equipment and instrumentation, and supports accurate laboratory records and reporting. The schedule is 40 hours per week on a rotating day shift between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., including every fourth Saturday. A $2,500 new-hire sign-on bonus is offered; rehires whose employment ended more than one year ago are also eligible. Pay is based on experience and ranges from $22.16 to $29.11 per hour.

Requirements

• Successful completion of a college-based, nationally accredited phlebotomy program or a Medical Laboratory Assistant program, or equivalent.
• Certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC or equivalent) is required within two years from the date of hire.
• Must be fully vaccinated against seasonal influenza and COVID-19, or qualify for an exemption for medical or personal reasons by signing a statement certifying the choice to be exempt from vaccination once hired.

Responsibilities

• Obtain correct specimens and volumes according to current procedures.
• Ensure all specimens are appropriately and accurately labeled.
• Process and deliver specimens to the correct laboratory departments.
• Enter specimen and patient information in the LIS or department logs.
• Generate accurate reports in a timely fashion and distribute them appropriately.
• Perform phlebotomy on inpatients, outreach clients, home draws, nursing homes, and at outreach locations.
• Maintain equipment and instrumentation.
