About The Position

Southcoast Health is seeking a Laboratory Assistant-Phlebotomist for per-diem work at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River, Massachusetts. The position has flexible shifts and hours. Under the general supervision and direction of the Manager, Laboratory Site, or designee, the role obtains, labels, processes, and delivers specimens; records specimen and patient information; prepares and distributes reports; performs phlebotomy across inpatient, outreach, home-draw, nursing-home, and other outreach settings; and maintains equipment and instrumentation. Pay is based on experience, with a stated range of $22.16 to $29.11 per hour.

Requirements

Equivalent to successful completion of a college-based, nationally accredited phlebotomy program or a Medical Laboratory Assistant program.
Certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC or equivalent) is required within two years from the date of hire.
Must be fully vaccinated against seasonal influenza and COVID-19, or qualify for an exemption for medical or personal reasons by signing a statement certifying the choice to be exempt once hired.

Responsibilities

Obtain correct specimens and volumes according to current procedures.
Ensure all specimens are appropriately and accurately labeled.
Process and deliver specimens to the correct laboratory departments.
Enter specimen and patient information in the LIS or department logs.
Generate accurate reports in a timely fashion and distribute them appropriately.
Perform phlebotomy for inpatients, outreach clients, home draws, nursing homes, and outreach locations.
Maintain equipment and instrumentation.
