Laboratory Assistant-Phlebotomist
About The Position
Southcoast Health is seeking a Laboratory Assistant-Phlebotomist for its Outreach Lab in Fall River, Massachusetts. Under the general supervision and direction of the Manager, Laboratory Site or designee, the role obtains and processes specimens and performs phlebotomy across inpatient, outreach, home-draw, and nursing-home settings. The position is scheduled for 24 flex 32 hours, on day shifts rotating between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., with work every fourth Saturday. The listed pay range is $22.16–$29.11 per hour, with pay determined by experience. A $1,500 new-hire sign-on bonus is offered; eligible rehires must have been terminated for more than one year.
Requirements
- Successful completion of a college-based, nationally accredited phlebotomy program or a Medical Laboratory Assistant program.
- Certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC) or equivalent is required within two years from the date of hire.
- Must be fully vaccinated against seasonal influenza and COVID-19, or, after hire, sign a statement electing exemption for medical or personal reasons.
Responsibilities
- Obtain correct specimens and volumes according to current procedures.
- Ensure specimens are appropriately and accurately labeled.
- Process and deliver specimens to the correct laboratory departments.
- Enter specimen and patient information in the laboratory information system (LIS) or department logs.
- Generate accurate reports in a timely fashion and distribute them appropriately.
- Perform phlebotomy for inpatients, outreach clients, home draws, nursing homes, and outreach locations.
- Maintain equipment and instrumentation.
