About The Position

The Laboratory Assistant III performs blood specimen collection, specimen receipt, and distribution of laboratory specimens, and performs CLIA-waived laboratory tests as requested. The role processes anatomic pathology and cytology specimens and assists pathologists and histotechs as needed. The position may supervise or lead Laboratory Assistant I and II staff as requested. Responsibilities also include prioritizing, registering, tracking, shipping, and billing specimens sent to reference laboratories, and assisting with anatomic pathology specimen processing, including preparation of microscopic tissue slides, staining, and specimen management.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Three years of laboratory experience.
• Phlebotomy certification where required by state law.

Nice To Haves

• Associate degree in a laboratory or medical-related field from an accredited institution.
• Basic laboratory computer or laboratory information system experience.
• Completion of a formal phlebotomy training program and/or national phlebotomy certification through ASCP, ANP, ASPT, or similar.

Responsibilities

• Collect blood specimens and receive and distribute laboratory specimens.
• Prioritize, register, and distribute specimens.
• Handle send-out and reference laboratory shipping, tracking, and billing.
• Perform CLIA-waived testing as requested.
• Process anatomic pathology and cytology specimens as requested.
• Assist with anatomic pathology specimen processing, including preparing microscopic tissue slides, staining, and specimen management.
• Assist pathologists and histotechs as needed.
• Supervise or lead Laboratory Assistant I and II positions as requested.
