About The Position

Indiana University Health is Indiana’s most comprehensive health system, with 16 hospitals and more than 34,000 team members serving Hoosiers across the state. The laboratories of IU Health offer some of the most comprehensive laboratory services in Indiana, performing more than 19 million tests a year and operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week. These services are provided to IU Health, as well as hospitals and physicians across the country. The Lab Assistant II provides general laboratory services including specimen collection, blood component preparation, pre-analytic processing of specimens, waived testing, and identified moderate complexity testing, along with related clerical tasks. The incumbent may also be responsible for patient and specimen registration and delivery of specimens.

Requirements

• HS grad or GED Equivalent
• Successfully completion of an initial and six (6) month competency for identified testing
• Successfully completion an annual competency assessment for identified testing
• Working knowledge of computers
• Telephone skills
• Ability to perform repetitive tasks for prolonged periods of time

Nice To Haves

• Completion of a phlebotomy training program with experience in laboratory or coursework in biological, chemical or related science
• Experience in waived or moderate complexity testing

Responsibilities

• Provide general laboratory services including specimen collection
• Prepare blood components
• Perform pre-analytic processing of specimens
• Conduct waived testing and identified moderate complexity testing
• Perform related clerical tasks
• Register patients and specimens
• Deliver specimens
• May serve on appropriate committees or projects that contribute to the overall purpose and essential functions of the department
