About The Position

Indiana University Health is seeking a Laboratory Assistant II to provide general laboratory services. Duties include specimen collection, blood component preparation, pre-analytic specimen processing, waived testing, identified moderate complexity testing, and related clerical tasks. The role may also involve patient and specimen registration and specimen delivery.

IU Health laboratories operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, perform more than 19 million tests annually, and provide testing services to hospitals and physicians across the country. This position is full-time on the day shift in Lafayette, Indiana.

Requirements

• High school graduate or GED equivalent.
• Successfully complete an initial and six-month competency for identified testing.
• Successfully complete an annual competency assessment for identified testing.
• Working knowledge of computers.
• Telephone skills.
• Ability to perform repetitive tasks for prolonged periods.

Nice To Haves

• Completion of a phlebotomy training program with experience in a laboratory, or coursework in biological, chemical, or a related science.
• Experience in waived or moderate complexity testing.

Responsibilities

• Provide specimen collection services.
• Prepare blood components.
• Perform pre-analytic processing of specimens.
• Perform waived testing and identified moderate complexity testing.
• Complete related clerical tasks.
• Register patients and specimens as needed.
• Deliver specimens as needed.
• May serve on appropriate committees or projects that contribute to the department’s overall purpose and essential functions.
