About The Position

Indiana University Health is seeking a Laboratory Assistant II to provide general laboratory services at its Lafayette, Indiana location. The laboratories provide comprehensive services and perform more than 19 million tests annually, operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Services are also provided to hospitals and physicians across the country.

The role includes specimen collection, blood component preparation, pre-analytic specimen processing, waived testing, identified moderate-complexity testing, and related clerical tasks. The incumbent may also be responsible for patient and specimen registration and specimen delivery. The position is full-time on the day shift.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Working knowledge of computers.
• Telephone skills.
• Ability to perform repetitive tasks for prolonged periods.

Nice To Haves

• Completion of a phlebotomy training program with experience in a laboratory, or coursework in biological, chemical, or related sciences.
• Experience in waived or moderate-complexity testing.

Responsibilities

• Provide general laboratory services, including specimen collection and blood component preparation.
• Perform pre-analytic processing of specimens and waived testing, as well as identified moderate-complexity testing.
• Complete related clerical tasks.
• May register patients and specimens and deliver specimens.
• May serve on appropriate committees or projects that contribute to the department’s overall purpose and essential functions.
• Successfully complete initial and six-month competency assessments for identified testing.
• Successfully complete annual competency assessments for identified testing.
