About The Position

The Laboratory Assistant I provides general laboratory services in the Microbiology department, including specimen collection, order entry, blood component preparation, pre-analytic specimen processing, and related clerical tasks. The role may also involve patient and specimen registration and delivery of specimens. The position is full-time, working nights from 9:00 PM to 5:30 AM, Monday through Friday. Training will take place on the evening shift, 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM, Monday through Friday, until the employee is fully competent. The role is located at IUHMG M-Pathology Lab in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Requirements

• High school graduate or GED equivalent.
• Working knowledge of computers.
• Telephone skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work as a team member.
• Ability to perform repetitive tasks for prolonged periods of time.
• May require a valid Indiana operator’s license and a good driving history for the last three years.
• May require an understanding of Indiana traffic laws.

Nice To Haves

• Completion of a phlebotomy training program with laboratory experience.
• Coursework in biological, chemical, or related science.

Responsibilities

• Provide general laboratory services, including specimen collection, order entry, and blood component preparation.

• Register patients and specimens as needed.
• Deliver specimens as needed.
• May serve on appropriate committees or projects that contribute to the department’s overall purpose and essential functions.
