About The Position
This full-time position is for a Laboratory Assistant in Advanced Microbiology at Atrium Health's Carolinas Medical Center - Core Lab. The role involves accurately accessioning and registering specimens, maintaining high quality and productivity, and following designated procedures for labeling and processing. The assistant will also prepare solutions, reagents, and supplies, operate laboratory equipment, and answer phone and paging systems. Adherence to College of American Pathologists (CAP) requirements is essential. The work environment involves biohazardous materials, chemical, fire, and mechanical hazards, and may require stooping, reaching, lifting, standing, and walking for extended periods.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Works in an area, which contains biohazardous (infectious) materials along with chemical, fire, and mechanical hazards.
- May be required to stoop, reach and lift light (20 pound) to moderately heavy (50 pound) loads.
- May be required to stand and or walk for extended periods of time.

- Degree in chemical, biological, or life sciences preferred.
Responsibilities
- Accurately accessions and registers specimens for processing and testing.
- Maintains high quality and productivity as required by department.
- Follows designated procedures for labeling and processing; sort and deliver specimens to technical areas as assigned.
- Prepares solutions, reagents and supplies as assigned.
- Operates all necessary equipment in designated laboratory.
- Answers phone and paging system as needed.
- Follows College of American Pathologists (CAP) requirements.
