The Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse provides high-quality care to expectant mothers and newborns in a dynamic birthing center. The role involves caring for high-risk obstetric patients, attending deliveries independently, assisting with C-sections, and helping newborns transition after delivery. Nurses collaborate with OBGYNs and Neonatologists, who are available 24/7, and work in a fast-paced environment where workflows and policies may change. The birthing center has 13 L&D beds and two operating room suites for C-sections, with an average of 170–190 births per month. Each shift includes a surgical technologist and a patient care assistant. The unit uses the Centricity-perinatal EFM system to monitor fetal health. New hires complete an orientation that includes an 8-hour compliance day, an 8-hour EPIC class, and two to three additional 12-hour unit-specific orientation shifts. The unit values collaboration, feedback, adaptability, and a culture of excellence in patient care.
