About The Position

SOCOTEC is seeking a Laboratory Technician to work in its Construction Materials Testing Lab. This is a hands-on, physically active role rather than a desk job, involving daily work with soil, concrete, asphalt, masonry, and other construction-material samples. The work varies from day to day and includes preparing and testing samples in accordance with ASTM and other applicable standards and methods.

The technician accurately records and reports test results, maintains and verifies laboratory equipment, and performs other duties assigned by a supervisor or manager. The position requires the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and to remain on one’s feet in the lab.

Requirements

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and remain on your feet in a hands-on laboratory environment.
• High school diploma or higher degree.
• Two years of laboratory experience or relevant certifications or degree.
• Technical or engineering background or knowledge.
• Ability to obtain ACI Lab Concrete Testing Certification within six months of hire.
• Strong math skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Mix, mold, cure, and break samples of concrete, soil, asphalt, masonry, and other construction materials.
• Perform standardized laboratory tests in accordance with ASTM and other applicable methods.
• Accurately record and report test results in line with ASTM and other standardized reporting requirements.
• Keep laboratory equipment clean, calibrated, and in good working order through routine maintenance and verification checks.
• Perform other duties as assigned by a supervisor or manager.
