About The Position

Our Scarborough, ME laboratory is seeking an entry-level Lab Technician to join their team! The Lab Technician I will prepare samples with accuracy and precision in accordance to SGS' analytical SOPs. Work independently and as part of a team to meet daily production targets and ensure hold times and turnaround times are met. Always follow safe laboratory practices and maintain a safe working environment. Position Description: Field Service Technicians are responsible for collecting environmental water, soil, and air samples to be analyzed for numerous industrial and municipal clients. The ideal candidate should enjoy working with their hands and be able to troubleshoot problems that come up in the field. Daily tasks can vary greatly. Typical tasks include communicating with team members, clients, and vendors, traveling to sites, maintaining equipment, preparing sampling containers, collecting samples, and completing documentation requirements. Sample collection practices include several methods of collecting groundwater with pumps and bailers, using programmable instrumentation to collect composite samples of effluent and wastewater, and using meters to record field conditions. Field Service Technicians also provide routine and technical laboratory support services when not on field sampling assignments.

Requirements

  • High school diploma (Required)
  • English (Required)
  • Basic Mathematical Skills (Required)
  • Basic Reasoning Skills/Abilities (Required)
  • Basic Computer Skills (Required)
  • Must enjoy working outside year-round
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • On feet much of the day.
  • Ability to drive up to four hours at a time to sampling sites.
  • Must have a clean driving record.
  • Ability to multitask, work in a highly productive environment, and work independently or as part of a small team once fully trained.

Nice To Haves

  • Associates Degree in Chemistry or similar scientific discipline (Preferred)
