About The Position

Wieland is hiring a Lab Technician. The Lab Technician will be responsible for operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and standardizing laboratory analytical equipment to ensure accurate testing and reliable results. Performs chemical and material analyses using various instrumentation, inspects production samples for quality and surface defects, and takes appropriate corrective actions. Supports automated laboratory operations through routine maintenance, equipment calibration, and analysis of metals, oils, and other materials in accordance with established procedures. This role is located in Buffalo, NY and will be fully onsite. Base Salary Range: $26.00/hour. May be eligible for a variable compensation plan bonus based upon company performance within fiscal year cycle. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field, or an Associate degree with a minimum of five (5) years of laboratory experience required.
  • Knowledge of laboratory testing methods and analytical instrumentation.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot technical equipment.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, reliable results.
  • Ability to follow written procedures, maintain accurate records, and work safely in a laboratory environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Chemical laboratory experience preferred.
  • Experience operating, calibrating, troubleshooting, and maintaining analytical laboratory equipment preferred.
  • Familiarity with ISO and IATF quality management systems is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, standardize, troubleshoot, and maintain laboratory analytical equipment, including OES, XRF, LECO, LUX, and related automated laboratory systems.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and replace equipment components as needed to ensure reliable laboratory operations.
  • Conduct chemical and material analyses using a variety of analytical techniques, including ICP, FTIR, and copper determination methods.
  • Inspect production samples for surface defects and determine appropriate corrective actions, including rework or scrap disposition.
  • Support automated laboratory operations by performing manual testing and analysis when required.
  • Accurately document test results and maintain laboratory records in accordance with quality standards.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and support compliance with ISO 9001, IATF 16949, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and ISO 50001 management systems.
  • Safely handle, containerize, and label universal waste materials in accordance with environmental regulations and company procedures.
  • Follow all laboratory safety policies, procedures, and environmental requirements.
