As a Lab Support Installation Technician, hands‑on installation expertise enables research and development teams to design, test, and deliver next‑generation telecommunications and data center solutions. The work directly impacts product quality, lab reliability, and the pace of innovation across Ciena’s global labs ecosystem.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in a telecommunications, data center, or research and development lab support environment
  • Strong hands‑on experience installing and supporting telecom and data center infrastructure and equipment
  • Proven ability to install, terminate, and test structured cabling systems including Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A, and MPO/MTP fiber
  • Working knowledge of structured cabling standards and best practices
  • Experience working with direct current (DC) power systems and breaker distribution panels
  • Physical capability to safely lift and install heavy equipment
  • College diploma in a technician program or equivalent practical experience

Responsibilities

  • Install and support telecommunications and data center equipment across research and development lab environments
  • Perform physical installation of frames, racks, cabinets, shelves, and data center hardware
  • Install, terminate, energize, and test direct current (DC) power cabling from breaker panels to equipment under test
  • Install, terminate, clean, and test communications cabling including Ethernet, fiber optics, coaxial, and BIX systems
  • Support installation of Ciena and third‑party telecom equipment, as well as servers, network switches, storage systems, and power distribution units (PDUs)
  • Maintain accurate labeling, documentation, and asset records for all installed and relocated equipment
  • Ensure all work complies with health and safety regulations, structured cabling standards, and company guidelines
