About The Position

The Park Lab in the Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Cancer Biology, at the University of Virginia School of Medicine, is seeking a Laboratory Specialist to work on projects investigating genetic alterations in cancers. The Lab Specialist will work closely with Dr. Park and other lab members to perform a set of experiments on a regular basis, which include animal related works (genotyping PCR, monitoring mouse colony and tumor-bearing mice), cell culture works, molecular biology works (plasmid cloning and transfection), and biochemical experiments (protein extraction and immunoblot) under the direction of principal Investigator.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • At least 1 year of relevant lab experience.
  • May accept combination of experience/education/certification in lieu of degree.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree
  • 3-5 years of experience

Responsibilities

  • Proficiency with the following techniques: mouse anatomy and primary tissue culture; molecular methods such as cloning, PCR, real-time PCR; transfection of transgene and shRNA; and biochemical methods such as western blot and protein extraction.
  • General computer skills and ability to quickly learn and master basic computer programs.
  • Strong analytical skills and excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to work under deadlines with general guidance is essential.
  • Checking inventory of basic laboratory supplies
  • Maintaining cell culture daily and managing mouse colonies and genotyping of the colonies when necessary.
