Requirements

Bachelor's degree in microbiology, biomedical sciences, biology, or a closely related field
1–3 years of experience in laboratory operations or management
Strong understanding of lab safety practices, chemical handling, and hazardous materials management
Excellent organizational skills and technical proficiency in lab equipment and inventory systems
Effective communication and interpersonal skills; ability to supervise student workers and collaborate with faculty
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations and contribute positively to the university community

Responsibilities

Prepare and support microbiology laboratory courses by setting up equipment, supplies, reagents, media, specimens, models, and instructional materials, equipment upkeep, inventory management, lab resources coordination
Manage daily operation, organization, and maintenance of microbiology laboratory, preparation, supplies procurement, biosafety and university safety policies compliance, equipment and supplies storage, and shared-use spaces
Collaborate with faculty to prepare laboratories for instructional activities and evaluate laboratory procedures, protocols, and equipment prior to implementation
Maintain inventories of laboratory supplies, chemicals, reagents, biological specimens, equipment, instrumentation, and instructional materials
Coordinate purchasing, receiving, storage, distribution, and recordkeeping for laboratory supplies, equipment, and consumable materials
Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and coordinate servicing, calibration, and repair of laboratory equipment and instrumentation
Work with the Department Chair to monitor laboratory budgets, expenditures, purchasing activities, and service agreements
Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise student workers and laboratory assistants
Ensure that laboratory facilities, equipment, and environmental conditions are maintained to support safe and effective instructional and research activities
Promote and maintain compliance with university policies and applicable local, state, and federal regulations governing laboratory operations
Collaborate with Environmental Health and Safety personnel regarding chemical hygiene, hazardous waste management, biological safety, emergency preparedness, and regulatory compliance
Assisting faculty to implement new laboratory exercises and educational initiatives
Maintain laboratory safety records and assist with inspections, audits, accreditation activities, and other compliance reviews
Support faculty and student research activities and assist with experimental procedures using appropriate microbiology techniques and instrumentation
Serve as a liaison between the laboratory and university departments, service providers, vendors, and external partners
Collaborate with Information Technology personnel regarding laboratory software, instrumentation interfaces, and technology support
Attend departmental, school, and university meetings as required
Perform any other related duties assigned by supervisor, Dean, or his/her/their designee
