About The Position

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) is seeking a Postdoctoral Scholar in Neuroimaging to join the Department of Health Physics and Diagnostic Sciences within the School of Integrated Health Sciences. This role reports to Ayan Sengupta, Assistant Professor, and will be involved with the UNLV MR Imaging Core (UMIC), a facility dedicated to brain imaging research. The position supports UNLV's mission as a Carnegie R1 institution by contributing to high-impact, interdisciplinary research focused on understanding the brain, translating discoveries, and enhancing brain health. The scholar will conduct research, develop and implement innovative MRI acquisition and data analysis methods, provide methodological support to UMIC users, manage scientific data on a High-Performance Computational Cluster, and participate in academic teaching and self-governance. Mentorship will be provided by the PI and their network, with potential opportunities for independent research. The research activities will involve cutting-edge neuroimaging pipelines and technologies, including a 3 Tesla Siemens Prisma MRI scanner, peripheral physiological measurement devices, functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS), UHF-MRI compatible stimulation devices, multimodal neurostimulation (TMS, tDCS), behavioral experiments, EEG, and wet laboratory facilities.

Requirements

• PhD degree in psychology, neuroscience, MR physics, or a related field from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
• Credentials must be obtained prior to the employment start date.
• Excellent computer and programming skills in relevant programming languages (e.g. Python, MATLAB).
• Experience with MRI data processing.
• Broad expertise in cognitive neuroscience methods.
• Demonstrated evidence of analyzing Neuroimaging Data on High Performance Computational Clusters.
• Strong communication skills and experience working in teams.
• Proficiency in English language skills for ensuring effective research communication with all user groups and participants in UMIC’s interdisciplinary environment.

Nice To Haves

• Demonstrated experience of working with fMRIprep pipelines.
• Familiarity with Linux Operation Systems (primarily Debian or Debian based OSs) and SLURM cluster management and job scheduling system.
• Experience in academic supervision (e.g., supervising doctoral theses).
• Ability to set up and maintain technical infrastructure in collaboration with the UMIC core team, including devices for stimulus presentation and response recording in MRI environments, or combinations of MRI and other neuroscientific measurements with peripheral physiological recordings.

Responsibilities

• Conducting scientific research and development work in MRI projects in line with the PI’s research program.
• Proposing research that is interesting to them and demonstrating a certain level of independence in research endeavors.
• Mentoring incoming graduate and undergraduate students in the group.
• Writing manuscripts, collecting and analyzing data, and helping with grant proposal writing.
• Further development and practical implementation of innovative MRI acquisition and data analysis methods.
• Providing scientific and methodological support and consultation in the implementation of neuroscientific studies and the scientific processing and analysis of research data.
• Providing technical and methodological support to users and research groups at the UMIC in resolving methodological and technical issues.
• Developing and implementing suitable procedures for scientific data management on the High-Performance Computational Cluster.
• Participating in academic teaching and academic self-governance.
• Running cutting-edge reproducible Neuroimaging Pipelines.
