About The Position
The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar in Neuroimaging within the Department of Health Physics and Diagnostic Sciences, School of Integrated Health Sciences. This role reports to Assistant Professor Ayan Sengupta, who is also the Associate Director of the UNLV MR Imaging Core (UMIC). UMIC is the only public brain imaging research facility in Southern Nevada, dedicated to exploring brain complexities, translating discoveries, and enhancing brain health. This position supports UNLV's mission as a Carnegie R1 institution by contributing to high-impact, interdisciplinary research. The scholar will conduct scientific research and development in MRI projects aligned with the PI's program, with encouragement to propose independent research. They will also mentor graduate and undergraduate students, write manuscripts, collect and analyze data, and assist with grant proposals. The position involves developing and implementing innovative MRI acquisition and data analysis methods, providing scientific and methodological support to UMIC users, managing scientific data on a High-Performance Computational Cluster, and participating in academic teaching and self-governance. Mentorship will be provided in research, grant writing, manuscript preparation, and methodology, with potential for independent research projects. The scholar will run cutting-edge reproducible Neuroimaging Pipelines using advanced technologies.
Requirements
- PhD degree in psychology, neuroscience, MR physics, or a related field from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
- Credentials must be obtained prior to the employment start date.
- Proficiency in English language skills for ensuring effective research communication with all user groups and participants in UMIC’s interdisciplinary environment.
Nice To Haves
- Excellent computer and programming skills in relevant programming languages (e.g. Python, MATLAB).
- Experience with MRI data processing.
- Broad expertise in cognitive neuroscience methods.
- Demonstrated experience of working with fMRIprep pipelines.
- Familiarity with Linux Operation Systems (primarily Debian or Debian based OSs) and SLURM cluster management and job scheduling system.
- Demonstrated evidence of analyzing Neuroimaging Data on High Performance Computational Clusters.
- Strong communication skills and experience working in teams.
- Experience in academic supervision (e.g., supervising doctoral theses).
- Ability to set up and maintain technical infrastructure in collaboration with the UMIC core team, including devices for stimulus presentation and response recording in MRI environments, or combinations of MRI and other neuroscientific measurements with peripheral physiological recordings.
Responsibilities
- Conducting scientific research and development work in MRI projects, in line with the PI’s research program.
- Proposing research that is interesting to them and demonstrating a certain level of independence in research endeavors.
- Mentoring incoming graduate and undergraduate students in the group.
- Writing manuscripts, collecting and analyzing data, helping with grant proposal writing, and related tasks.
- Further development and practical implementation of innovative MRI acquisition and data analysis methods.
- Providing scientific and methodological support and consultation in the implementation of neuroscientific studies and the scientific processing and analysis of research data.
- Providing technical and methodological support to users and research groups at the UMIC in resolving methodological and technical issues.
- Developing and implementing suitable procedures for scientific data management on the High-Performance Computational Cluster.
- Participating in academic teaching and academic self-governance.
- Running cutting-edge reproducible Neuroimaging Pipelines.
