Lab & Integration Engineer

Anduril•Costa Mesa, CA

About The Position

The Lab & Integration Engineer will engineer and integrate the software-in-the-loop and hardware-in-the-loop rigs supporting an autonomous air vehicle, including rigs for vehicle management, flight controls and mission systems, as well as an iron bird with hydraulics, loaded actuation and power. These rigs support software releases, mission systems integration and flight-test preparation, while being designed, brought up and used in parallel. This is an individual-contributor role working for the Lab & Integration Lead alongside lab technicians. The engineer will own specific rigs and lab subsystems end to end, making and closing design and integration decisions while working across design tools, benches and the integration floor. The position includes rig design and bring-up, HITL host and simulation integration, integration testing and troubleshooting, configuration control, test-data capture and automation, capacity planning, safe and secure lab operations, and procedure development and technician mentoring.

Requirements

  • B.S. in electrical, computer, aerospace or mechanical engineering, computer science, or a similar technical field.
  • At least 3 years of hands-on engineering in SIL, HIL, an iron bird, an avionics integration lab, or flight-hardware integration and test for aircraft, missiles, space systems or comparable complex systems.
  • Electrical and avionics integration skills, including reading and producing schematics, harness definitions and pin-to-pins; working with MIL-DTL-38999-class connectors; safe-to-mate practices; and aircraft power distribution.
  • Working knowledge of avionics data buses and networks such as Ethernet, MIL-STD-1553, ARINC 429, RS-422/485 and CAN, and time synchronization such as PTP and IRIG.
  • Experience integrating or operating real-time HITL hosts, simulation, I/O and data-acquisition hardware.
  • Proficiency in Python or a similar language and Linux for automation, data analysis and tooling.
  • Confidence using bench instrumentation and bus analyzers, with a structured approach to isolating faults across hardware, network and software.
  • Experience producing controlled engineering records, including rig or test configuration, as-run data, procedures and discrepancy reports.
  • Clear written and verbal communication with software, hardware, test and program teams.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • An active security clearance.
  • Experience with real-time simulation and HIL platforms such as NI, dSPACE, Speedgoat or Concurrent, and plant-model integration.
  • Mission systems integration experience, including EO/IR, electronic warfare, datalinks, crypto and key management, or C2 ground segments.
  • Iron bird, hydraulic, flight-control actuation or power-system test experience.
  • Lab CI and test automation experience, including automated regression on hardware rigs, test frameworks and results dashboards.
  • Lab network design and accreditation experience, including RMF / ATO and JSIG.
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD-704 and MIL-STD-461, and linking verification evidence to a system model.
  • Flight-test or ground-test support on a developmental aircraft program.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain rig designs within the lab architecture, including block diagrams, rack and power layouts, network designs, harness definitions and pin-to-pins, and rig interface control documents.
  • Review build drawings and work instructions before material is released.
  • Plan and lead rig bring-up, including safe-to-mate, power-on and BIT, LRU checkout, network and time-sync verification, and host/simulation reference-scenario runs.
  • Close readiness checklist items before declaring a rig operational.
  • Integrate real-time hosts, I/O, plant models, simulation and flight hardware for HITL rigs; characterize latency and timing, compare simulation behavior against reference data, and document each rig’s capabilities and limitations.
  • Run integration of software releases and new hardware on the rigs; execute procedures, triage failures across software, avionics, mission systems and lab causes, drive discrepancy reports to closure, and perform regression after changes.
  • Maintain rig configuration baselines, including LRU part and serial numbers, software and firmware loads, harness revisions and simulation versions; ensure for-record runs have complete as-tested records.
  • Set up data recording and logging that trace results to requirements and configuration; build scripts and tools to retrieve, check and summarize data for integration, qualification and flight-readiness reviews.
  • Automate repetitive checkout, configuration capture and regression runs to reduce manual use of rig time.
  • Provide rig-hour estimates, build and bring-up schedules, and long-lead material inputs; assess changes needed for new hardware lots and maintain sustainment, spares and obsolescence plans.
  • Contribute to lab hazard analysis and network and classified-lab accreditation for owned rigs; follow and improve controls for hydraulics, high power, rotating machinery and classified operations.
  • Write procedures, checklists and lessons learned, and mentor technicians in troubleshooting and documentation.

Benefits

  • Highly competitive equity grants are included in the majority of full-time offers.
  • Top-tier benefits package, described as comprehensive and competitive and available at little to no cost to employees.
