This job description is intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed by employees assigned to this department. The LIS Specialist will maintain Laboratory Information System hardware and software, troubleshoot problems in a timely manner, report issues to the LIS vendor as needed, schedule and validate software and hardware upgrades per vendor specifications, troubleshoot and resolve system issues, configure and monitor foreign systems and instrument interfaces, and validate the integrity of data in the LIS system as well as in downstream systems. They will also develop and maintain policies, procedures, and documentation pertaining to the LIS, manage departmental inventory and ordering, schedule and perform hardware maintenance to minimize downtime and disruption of services, and orient employees to LIS processes and procedures, assist in their competency assessments, and provide input for performance evaluations. Additionally, they will set clear expectations for employees regarding LIS usage and maintain accountability for following all hospital and Lab policies and procedures with respect to LIS use.
