Lab/EKG Technician
About The Position
Performs EKGs and obtains blood and other specimens from outpatients for laboratory testing according to licensed physician or provider orders. Obtains necessary supplies, verifies patient identity using two identifiers, prepares skin sites, and performs venipuncture and skin punctures using established aseptic techniques. Labels specimens in front of the patient, processes specimens, and prepares samples for transportation to the OSF System Laboratory for analysis. Performs clerical and computer duties associated with the Lab and EKG. Provides patient care appropriate to the ages of patients served and maintains professional relationships with patients, Mission Partners, and physicians. Duties may vary by assigned area or shift.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Ability to travel regularly and punctually between various sites.
- Analytical skills necessary for phlebotomy requirements and specimen preparation.
Nice To Haves
- Completion of a formal structured phlebotomy program, or three months of full-time phlebotomy experience or equivalent.
- EKG experience.
- CPR certification from the American Heart Association (BLS).
- Phlebotomy Technician Certification (PBT).
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Solid computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft software.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Responsibilities
