About The Position
This job advertisement is to fill an existing vacancy for a Lab Demonstrator position within the CUPE4207-1 Employee Group. Teaching Assistant, Course Coordinator, and Lab Demonstrator positions are paid according to the qualifications the employee holds. Employees without a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the undergraduate rate of $22.07 per hour (effective September 1, 2024). Employees with a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the graduate rate of $34.73 per hour (effective September 1, 2024). In cases where additional duties are required as part of a Teaching Assistant’s duties, these hours shall be compensated at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate. The nominal workload for this position is 10 hours per week, consisting of 6 hours demonstrating and 4 hours of marking and lab preparation. Duties and responsibilities will be in accordance with Article 22 of the Collective Agreement. Under the direction of the Senior Lab Instructor, the incumbent is required to be familiar with laboratory procedures, present an introduction to the lab, demonstrate laboratory techniques, teach and assist students during the lab, maintain safe lab conditions, be responsible for lab preparation and cleanup, mark lab reports, and attend meetings as needed.
Requirements
- MSc or currently enrolled in a graduate program in Biological Sciences
- Completed BIOL 1P24 or an equivalent course
