About The Position

Brock University is seeking a Lab Demonstrator for the HLSC 4P02 Winter D3-3 course. This position is part of the CUPE4207-1 Employee Group. The nominal workload is 10 hours per week, including demonstrating, marking, and lab preparation. The role involves assisting students in the laboratory, maintaining safety, preparing and cleaning the lab, and marking reports under the direction of the Senior Lab Instructor.

Requirements

• A bachelor's degree in health sciences or a related discipline is required.
• Brock undergraduate applicants must be in their fourth year (Honours) and have successfully completed this course.
• Completion of immunology, molecular biology, and cell biology courses at the undergraduate level or higher is required.
• Previous experience in an immunology or similar laboratory is required.
• Workplace Safety and Biosafety training is required.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to build positive relationships with students and foster a supportive learning atmosphere in the wet laboratories.
• Ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines.
• Experience or training with online synchronous and asynchronous course support.
• Proficiency with online delivery tools (e.g., Lifesize, Microsoft Teams, Brightspace), computer spreadsheets (e.g., Excel), and electronic audience response systems.
• Available to provide feedback in person and, when required, online.

Responsibilities

• Be familiar with laboratory procedures.
• Present an introduction to the lab.
• Demonstrate laboratory techniques.
• Teach and assist students during the lab.
• Maintain safe lab conditions.
• Be responsible for lab preparation and cleanup.
• Mark lab reports.
• Attend meetings as needed.
