About The Position

The Lab Coordinator is a professional role that provides overall leadership, management and operational direction to an experienced, highly skilled team comprised of 9 lab technicians and field samplers across two SAGD assets (Christina Lake and Christina Lake North). This is a full-time employee position working a shift rotation. All Oil Sands Operations sites have full-service camp facilities and recreational amenities. Transportation: Depending on your place of residence and your shift rotation, bus and/or air transportation to/from site is offered from designated departure points in select locations. Foster Creek is serviced by flight Hubs in Calgary and Edmonton as well as bus transportation to site from La Corey, AB. Christina Lake is serviced by flight Hubs in Calgary and Edmonton as well as bus transportation to site from La Corey, AB. and Lac La Biche, AB. Christina Lake North is serviced by flight hubs in Calgary and Edmonton. Sunrise is serviced by flight hubs in Calgary and Edmonton.

Requirements

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Relevant university degree or technical diploma is required.
  • 8+ years of relevant industry experience supported with 3+ years of proven people leadership experience.
  • Extensive hands-on experience operating and interpreting results from a wide range of analytical lab equipment, including chromatography, ICP, titration, and physical property analyzers.
  • For this position you will be required to maintain a Class 5 driver's license, a satisfactory driving record, and adhere to the appropriate Company policies and guidelines.
  • A driver's abstract will be one of the background checks requested in the pre-employment screening for the final candidate.

  • CALA accredited Lab experience would be an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the day-to-day operation of a high-volume laboratory supporting samples testing and analysis for two adjacent SAGD oil sands sites.
  • Prioritize and direct team work to achieve goals efficiently using people, processes, and technology.
  • Oversee lab operations, leveraging advanced analytical equipment (e.g., GC, ICP, titration, viscosity/density tools).
  • Drive continuous improvement by identifying and resolving operational challenges and enhancing processes.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and Cenovus Operations Integrity Management System (COIMS) standards while modeling a strong safety culture.
  • Develop, coach, and manage team performance, including talent planning, feedback, and growth plans.
