About The Position

Clean Harbors is hiring a Lab Chemist in Cleveland, Ohio, to support the facility’s chemical disposal operation. The role prepares samples and analyzes them to determine their chemical and physical properties. The schedule is day shift during training, followed by second shift, 3:30 p.m. to midnight, Monday through Friday. Overtime and Saturdays may be needed. Pay is $23–$29 per hour, depending on experience, plus a $1.75 shift differential once assigned to second shift.

The chemist conducts analyses using prescribed procedures, operates and calibrates instruments, maintains equipment, documents results, and follows applicable quality and safety requirements. The position also includes managing supplies and analytical waste, maintaining housekeeping standards, and working with colleagues from varied educational and technical backgrounds.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or physical science.
• 1–5 years of hands-on laboratory experience with wet chemistry testing methods.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to interact with people from varied educational and technical backgrounds.
• Ability to work in a team environment.

Nice To Haves

• Ability to set up and conduct chemical experiments or tests such as chromatography, spectroscopy, and titrations.

Responsibilities

• Follow health and safety policies, processes, and practices at all times.
• Maintain a safe working environment in compliance with applicable OSHA regulations and company health, safety, and compliance protocols.
• Analyze samples using prescribed procedures and resolve minor problems.
• Calibrate and use laboratory instrumentation.
• Maintain equipment and suggest solutions to problems.
• Complete paperwork associated with analyses neatly and on time.
• Ensure work meets applicable QA/QC guidelines.
• Manage supplies in the assigned area, including proper housekeeping and best management practices.
• Properly manage waste generated by analytical procedures.
