About The Position

This nine-month split position will be co-supervised by the Science Laboratory Supervisor and the Director of Healthcare Simulations. This full-time position involves a flexible 35-hour work week. Some night and/or weekends may be required. Responsible for providing assistance for laboratory preparation of the science courses offered on the Wye Mills campus and the Cambridge Center. Responsible for overseeing, managing, and operating healthcare simulators and AV equipment.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in any of the sciences, preferably biology or chemistry.
  • Work experiences should include working in laboratory settings (for example, bio tech, chemistry, healthcare, or other related sciences).
  • Excellent communication skills, time management abilities, organizational abilities, and the ability to pay attention to details are required.
  • Employee must be able to receive, understand, and communicate verbal and written instruction and communicate in the English language.
  • Visual acuity appropriate for a normal management-type position is essential.
  • Employee must be able to drive a vehicle.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing and maintaining science laboratory materials for lab classes, including replenishing materials between laboratory classes, making solutions, reagents, and media.
  • Assisting in maintaining the laboratories in a neat and orderly manner at all times, and in maintaining the science stock/prep rooms at the Wye Mills campus and Cambridge Center.
  • Traveling to Cambridge, perhaps weekly, for laboratory preparation.
  • Assisting in maintaining and updating inventories, including models, charts, posters, maps, equipment, mineral and specimen collections, slides, and reference texts.
  • Orient new science adjunct instructors and communicate with adjuncts.
  • Comply with State and Federal Safety Regulations, including testing and recordkeeping for required safety equipment and procedures, and proper disposal of biohazards and carcinogens.
  • Independently setup labs (skills and simulation) with required equipment and supplies for educational sessions (including moulage).
  • Operate complex simulation equipment, Learning Space, and other related equipment.
  • Program Learning Space for upcoming simulations and debriefing.
  • Serve as the simulation operator during healthcare simulation sessions.
  • Collaborate with faculty to improve simulation experiences through technological recommendations and improvements.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues, maintain, and repair simulation equipment within training and warranty parameters.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance and software upgrades of simulation equipment within training and warranty parameters.
  • Clean lab spaces, task trainers, and simulators once lab sessions are concluded
  • Provide input to the budget, scheduling, procurement, and inventories for equipment and supplies.
  • Interpersonal activities and communication with standardized patients of various ages.
  • Provide tours of the simulation center to internal and external groups.
  • Other duties as assigned.
