About The Position

The Lab Assistant handles laboratory cleaning, including cleaning glassware, countertops, and floors; keeping garbage from overflowing; and disposing of hazardous waste. The role also supports laboratory supply stocking, inventory, and shipment receiving. In the Microbiology area, the Lab Assistant gathers post-testing reject samples for decontamination and carries out sterilization, decontamination, washing, drying, and storage of glassware. Other duties may be assigned by laboratory management.

Requirements

• Successful completion of an OSHA-compliant Respirator Fit Test.

Nice To Haves

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Less than one year of experience in pharmaceutical work or cleaning.

Responsibilities

• Continuously clean glassware using a cleaning machine and scrubber as needed.
• Organize cleaned glassware in storage cabinets or designated laboratory areas.
• Clean laboratory floors and benches.
• Remove garbage from laboratory areas and discard laboratory-generated waste in designated waste-collecting containers.
• Stock laboratory supplies daily and arrange incoming items in designated places to support First In and First Out (FIFO) use.
• Help maintain optimum laboratory inventory.
• Receive shipments and log them in the Material Receiving Logbook.
• Occasionally order laboratory supplies when required.
• In Microbiology, gather post-testing reject samples for decontamination.
• Run autoclave cycles for sterilization and decontamination.
• Wash decontaminated glassware, organize it for drying, and place dried glassware in its storage locations.
• Perform other duties as requested by laboratory management.
