About The Position

The Lab Assistant is responsible for laboratory cleaning and upkeep, including cleaning glassware, countertops, and floors; managing laboratory garbage and hazardous waste; maintaining supplies and inventory; and receiving and logging shipments. In the microbiology area, the role also involves handling post-testing reject samples for decontamination, operating autoclave cycles, and preparing glassware for drying and storage. Other duties may be assigned by laboratory management.

Requirements

• Successful completion of an OSHA-compliant Respirator Fit Test.

Nice To Haves

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Less than one year of experience in pharmaceutical work or cleaning.

Responsibilities

• Continuously clean glassware using a cleaning machine and scrubber as needed.
• Organize and store cleaned glassware in cabinets or designated laboratory areas.
• Clean laboratory floors and benches.
• Remove garbage from laboratory areas and place laboratory-generated waste in designated collection containers.
• Keep laboratory supplies stocked daily and arrange incoming items to support First In, First Out (FIFO) use.
• Help maintain optimal laboratory inventory.
• Receive shipments and record them in the Material Receiving logbook.
• Occasionally order laboratory supplies when required.
• In microbiology, gather post-testing reject samples for decontamination.
• Run autoclave cycles for sterilization and decontamination.
• Wash decontaminated glassware, organize it for drying, and place dried glassware in its storage locations.
• Perform other duties as requested by laboratory management.
