Together, we’re improving health and improving lives. Labcorp is seeking a Lab Assistant to join our Environmental Services team in Birmingham, AL. Work Schedule: Tuesday - Saturday 6:00am - 2:30pm.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent
Comfortability with handling biological specimens
Ability to accurately identify specimens
Basic computer knowledge and data entry skills
Ability to work independently and within a team environment
High level of attention to detail with the ability to prioritize and multitask
Ability to work in a fast paced production environment and meet established turn-around times
Strong communication skills; both written and verbal
Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position
Able to pass a standardized color blindness test

Responsibilities

Handle, transport, and dispose of regulated medical waste, biohazardous materials, and chemical waste according to OSHA, CDC, and facility guidelines.
Replace sharps containers and biohazard waste bins, ensuring proper labeling and segregation.
Assist with spill cleanup under supervision, following appropriate safety protocols.
Adhere to infection control standards, PPE requirements, and exposure-control procedures.
Comply with CLIA, CAP, Joint Commission, and OSHA environmental safety standards.
Report unsafe conditions, contamination risks, or equipment issues promptly.
Maintain cleanliness of specimen drop-off areas, and laboratory support spaces.
Restock supplies such as disinfectants, PPE, paper products, and waste containers.
