Together, we’re improving health and improving lives. Labcorp is seeking a Lab Assistant to join our Environmental Services team in Birmingham, AL. Work Schedule: Tuesday - Saturday 6:00am - 2:30pm.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Comfortability with handling biological specimens
  • Ability to accurately identify specimens
  • Basic computer knowledge and data entry skills
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • High level of attention to detail with the ability to prioritize and multitask
  • Ability to work in a fast paced production environment and meet established turn-around times
  • Strong communication skills; both written and verbal
  • Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position
  • Able to pass a standardized color blindness test

Responsibilities

  • Handle, transport, and dispose of regulated medical waste, biohazardous materials, and chemical waste according to OSHA, CDC, and facility guidelines.
  • Replace sharps containers and biohazard waste bins, ensuring proper labeling and segregation.
  • Assist with spill cleanup under supervision, following appropriate safety protocols.
  • Adhere to infection control standards, PPE requirements, and exposure-control procedures.
  • Comply with CLIA, CAP, Joint Commission, and OSHA environmental safety standards.
  • Report unsafe conditions, contamination risks, or equipment issues promptly.
  • Maintain cleanliness of specimen drop-off areas, and laboratory support spaces.
  • Restock supplies such as disinfectants, PPE, paper products, and waste containers.
