About The Position

This position performs phlebotomy on patients of all ages, performs waived testing, handles specimens according to laboratory guidelines, and maintains knowledge of the laboratory computer system. The role also involves inventory management, quality control, and troubleshooting specimen issues. Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • No license required.
  • 6 months as a phlebotomist or completion of a one semester course in phlebotomy.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and maintain professional in stressful situations.
  • Must maintain Basic Life Safety (BLS) certification.

Responsibilities

  • Performs phlebotomy correctly on all age patients, using 2 patient identifiers according to Hospital policy.
  • Performs waived testing within the appropriate time frame, adhering to specific turnaround times for test ordered.
  • Properly handles unacceptable specimens and performs testing only on specimens that conform to guidelines stated in laboratory manual.
  • Documents unacceptable specimens and notifies proper staff.
  • Maintains a thorough knowledge of the laboratory computer system and its functionality and can perform tasks correctly.
  • Appropriate utilization supplies and reagents.
  • Participate in weekly inventory.
  • Performs and records all required Quality Control, taking appropriate action as needed and alerting management as necessary.
  • Resolves pending specimen issues, troubleshoots problems.
