This is a temporary position from July through September. The Lab Assistant 1-PRN is expected to be a positive and supportive team member, treating all customers professionally, courteously, and promptly. The role requires compliance with all departmental and hospital policies, procedures, and regulations, including infection control, HIPPA, safety, and risk management. The position involves interacting with other departments, participating in process improvements, and attending staff meetings. Key duties include serving as a liaison between clinic and hospital labs, managing supplies, ensuring accurate patient and test data entry, providing instructions for specimen collection, answering the phone, performing phlebotomy for all ages, preparing specimens for shipping, collecting various sample types, performing drug and breath alcohol screens, conducting paternity collections, participating in proficiency testing, calling critical values, performing CLIA waived testing and quality control, handling blood products, responding to emergencies, and using proper patient identifiers. The role also requires adherence to age-appropriate guidelines and patient mental status, daily quality control on Glucometers, and proper disposal of sharps containers. The position also involves reconciling DTC reports and performing other assigned duties.
