About The Position

This is a Temporary Position from July through September. The compensation range is $21.41 to $30.58. This is a Non-Exempt Position. The role requires being a positive and supportive team member to staff members and the hospital, treating all customers in a professional, courteous, and prompt manner, and demonstrating a professional and caring attitude. Compliance with Departmental and Hospital Policies and Procedures and State/Federal Regulations is essential, including policies for infection control, HIPPA, safety, and risk management. The position involves completing required emergency planning drills, interacting with other departments for problem-solving and teamwork, and participating in interdepartmental process improvements and evaluations. Attending monthly staff meetings is required. The role serves as a liaison between the clinic and hospital labs and as a reference for nursing staff. Responsibilities include keeping supplies stocked and ordered, ensuring accurate patient demographics and tests are entered in the computer database, providing necessary instructions to customers for specimen collection, and answering the telephone. Proficiency in phlebotomy skills for all ages using appropriate collection devices is required. Duties include preparing specimens for shipment to reference labs, performing venipunctures and collecting blood cultures, collecting throat, nares, and nasopharyngeal samples, starting tests and obtaining specimens for glucose tolerance tests, performing drug and breath alcohol screens, and performing paternity collections. Participation in proficiency testing, calling critical values per department policy, and proficiency in performing and quality control for CLIA waived testing are also required. The role involves packing, unpacking, and receiving blood products, responding to Code Blue and Traumas, exhibiting proper use of two patient identifiers, and applying guidelines for age-appropriate and patient mental status. Daily quality control on Glucometer and proper disposal/changing of sharps containers are necessary. Reconciling DTC reports and performing other assigned duties are also part of the role. Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Must successfully pass a background check.
  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen and breath alcohol test (if applicable).
  • Must complete an Employee Health meeting prior to starting employment.
  • Phlebotomy certification.
  • One (1) year of phlebotomy experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (or be obtained within ninety (90) days of hire).
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology.
