Lab - Lab Assistant/Phlebotomist - FULL TIME
About The Position
Wilson Health is hiring a full-time Lab Assistant/Phlebotomist at its location in Sidney, Ohio. The laboratory provides testing for inpatients and outpatients and performs hematology, chemistry, microbiology, and blood bank testing. It is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC) and holds a CLIA Certificate. The lab assistant interprets orders and specimen or test preparation requirements, instructs patients or nursing staff, prepares requisitions, monitors orders for specimen collection, and enters orders and other data into the Laboratory Information System. The position works 40 hours per week (80 hours per pay period) on varied shifts based on staffing needs. First-shift start times vary among 5:00 a.m., 6:00 a.m., and 9:30 a.m., with eight-hour shifts. The position also requires every third Sunday on second-shift hours (9:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m.) and every third weekend. Weekend and occasional overtime work, coverage of all schedules and shifts when necessary, and the ability to respond to emergencies during off-hours are required. Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Formal phlebotomy training with certification, or comparable program certification (such as Medical Office Assisting) that includes phlebotomy training.
- Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) or Certified Medical Laboratory Assistant (CMLA).
- Ability to interact with and perform standard specimen collection procedures effectively for patients across neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric age groups.
- Ability to respond to emergencies during off-hours.
- Availability for required weekend work, occasional overtime, and coverage of schedules and shifts as necessary.
Responsibilities
- Collect venous and capillary blood specimens and nasal swabs.
- Perform standard specimen collection procedures for neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients, responding effectively to their individual needs.
- Communicate with reference laboratories.
- Maintain supplies of specimen collection and processing materials.
- Keep phlebotomy work areas and equipment clean and orderly, including workbenches, specimen collection trays, refrigerators, and storage sites.
- Collate, route, and distribute reports, correspondence, and other materials as required.
- Interpret orders and specimen or test preparation requirements; instruct patients or nursing staff; prepare requisitions; monitor orders for specimen collection; and enter orders and other data into the Laboratory Information System.
- Cover weekends and occasional overtime, and provide coverage across schedules and shifts as necessary.
- Respond to emergencies during off-hours.
