About The Position
Virginia Oncology Associates is seeking a Phlebotomist (Lab Assistant) to support its office at Obici Hospital in Suffolk. The organization is the largest group of medical professionals in Hampton Roads and Northeast North Carolina devoted exclusively to cancer care and blood disorders. This is a full-time, in-person position. Compensation is $20.85–$25.25 per hour; actual compensation depends on job-related factors including relevant experience, education, certifications, licensure, and skills.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Must be willing to travel between sites as needed.
Nice To Haves
- A minimum of one year of phlebotomy experience is strongly preferred.
Responsibilities
- Collect viable and appropriate patient specimens as ordered and perform specimen analysis for chemistry, hematology, and immunology specimens as directed.
- Assist with testing procedures.
- Maintain documentation, including test report logs, quality-control logs, equipment records, and checklists.
- Send specimens to reference laboratories for testing not performed in-house and process incoming laboratory testing orders.
- Update and file daily paperwork, laboratory logs, and maintenance logs.
- Operate designated laboratory equipment as directed and perform appropriate instrument maintenance.
