About The Position

The KOH Operator SSBO is responsible for chemically removing ceramic core material from castings and cleaning casting surfaces to meet customer specifications. This role involves accurately preparing, operating, and maintaining pressure vessels (autoclaves) used for chemical leaching of all castings and revert metal. The position requires adherence to safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment and potentially respirators, and may involve limited management of hazardous waste. Training is provided on the job, and specific company safety training must be completed.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, interpret and follow instructions on safety manuals, Process Control Procedures, Technique Cards, and bath analysis.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and decimals).
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Physical ability to perform the essential job functions.
  • Must complete PCC's Forklift Driving Safety Training.
  • Must complete PCC's Hazardous Chemical Safety Training.
  • If a tight-fitting respirator is required, facial hair, temple pieces on glasses or other items that interfere with the face-to-face piece seal of the respirator are not permitted.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of a basic chemistry course is preferred.
  • Three to six months’ prior chemical handling experience.
  • Ceramic core and shell removal experience is preferred.
  • Previous chemistry courses are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect and stage castings prior to chemical leaching, which may require working with hazardous waste.
  • Review Technique Cards and paperwork.
  • Visually inspect castings for core material or other contaminants; reject parts that do not meet SOP guidelines and reroute for cleaning.
  • Load baskets by reviewing the production schedule, staging castings in the autoclave room, and hoisting castings into vessel baskets.
  • Take samples of chemical holding tanks, make concentration adjustments, neutralize, and pump chemicals prior to the autoclave cycle to assure conformance to process control specifications.
  • Perform lab analysis to determine if chemical concentration is within specification ranges.
  • Dilute chemical holding tanks with water to ensure chemistry meets specifications.
  • Check operations of circulation pumps and valve gaskets; check for leaks; troubleshoot and review pumping diagrams and work instructions if needed.
  • Pump spent tank solutions into totes and stage them to be moved to a neutralization facility; clean and rinse work area.
  • Stage castings in the pressure vessel; prepare lid surface for operation; and use an HMI to operate the autoclave, adhering to specific procedures and following all work instructions.
  • Place castings in the pressure vessel using baskets and hoists.
  • Clean and inspect lid seal and change when necessary.
  • Interact with HMI to operate the pressure vessel following specific procedures and instructions.
  • Monitor data and trends to ensure specific procedures and instructions are being met.
  • Remove castings, rinse, dry borescopes, and inspect castings.
  • Transfer castings to pallets and prepare paperwork.
  • Complete logs and records, including calculations, chemical additions/dilutions, and yield.
  • Meet all production and quality standards.
  • Take responsibility for and demonstrate safe work practices.
  • Adhere to plant and department safety rules.
  • Safely operate all equipment and tools.
  • Identify and report safety problems.
  • Wear personal protective equipment, including respirators during acid bath additions.
  • Perform limited management of hazardous waste generated in the chemical mill process, which may include labeling, closing, and transferring hazardous waste containers.
  • Perform all Shell Removal Operator functions and perform those functions based on business needs (Deer Creek and SSBO Only).
