About The Position

The Autoclave Operator is responsible for chemically removing ceramic core material from castings and cleaning casting surfaces to meet customer specifications. This role involves accurately preparing, operating, and maintaining pressure vessels (autoclaves) used for the chemical leaching of all castings and revert metal. The position requires adherence to safety protocols, including the potential use of respirators and management of hazardous waste.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, interpret and follow instructions on safety manuals, Process Control Procedures, Technique Cards, and bath analysis.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and decimals).
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Physical ability to perform the essential job functions.
  • Must currently be working at Deer Creek in department 041 as a Shell Removal Operator.
  • Must complete PCC's Forklift Driving Safety Training.
  • Must complete PCC's Hazardous Chemical Safety Training.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of a basic chemistry course.
  • Three to six months’ prior chemical handling experience.
  • Experience with ceramic core and shell removal.
  • Previous chemistry courses.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect and stage castings prior to chemical leaching.
  • Take samples of chemical holding tanks, make concentration adjustments, neutralize, and pump chemicals prior to the autoclave cycle.
  • Stage castings in the pressure vessel, prepare the lid surface, and operate the autoclave using an HMI.
  • Monitor data and trends to ensure adherence to specific procedures and instructions.
  • Remove castings, rinse, dry, and inspect them.
  • Complete logs and records, including calculations, chemical additions/dilutions, and yield.
  • Adhere to plant and department safety rules.
  • Safely operate all equipment and tools.
  • Identify and report safety problems.
  • Wear personal protective equipment, including respirators during acid bath additions.
  • Perform limited management of hazardous waste, including labeling, closing, and transferring containers.
  • Perform Shell Removal Operator functions as needed based on business needs.
