About The Position

This role is for a Knowledge Lawyer within the Real Estate Group, based in one of their US offices (Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Washington, D.C., or Houston). The Knowledge Lawyer will develop and implement the Knowledge Strategy for the Real Estate Group, monitor legal and business developments, provide legal and practical expertise, mentor junior lawyers, manage standard forms and precedents, organize and deliver training, and evaluate/support the adoption of modern legal service tools, including AI. An expertise or strong interest in exploring AI solutions is required.

Requirements

  • Lawyer with actual practice experience in a field related to Real Estate.
  • Admitted to practice in the jurisdiction where the position is located.
  • Five or more years of sound legal experience relevant to the Group as an admitted and practicing lawyer in a large law firm or corporate/financial institution legal department.
  • Deep subject-matter expertise on various aspects of Real Estate legal work and commercial issues.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
  • High professional standards with a passion for quality product.
  • Excellent drafting and research skills.
  • Well-developed organizational and communication skills.
  • Understanding of learning processes and different methods of training.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with people at all levels.
  • Pragmatic, self-motivated, flexible, and a good team worker.

Responsibilities

  • Assess the knowledge needs of the Real Estate Group and coordinate cross-Practice efforts and AI solutions.
  • Define and implement a plan to meet knowledge needs aligned with business goals, with mechanisms for regular review.
  • Assess and support the adoption of modern tools and processes for legal service delivery, including AI, in collaboration with Innovation and IT teams.
  • Create and capture Real Estate-related knowledge content and encourage knowledge sharing.
  • Coordinate with other Practices to ensure consistency across Practices regarding Real Estate issues and policies.
  • Create and maintain an organized electronic collection of practice-related knowledge resources, including standard forms, precedents, best practices, and memos.
  • Tailor the Firm’s knowledge resources to meet the needs of the Real Estate Group.
  • Monitor and inform the Group about important legal and business developments.
  • Prepare regular current awareness newsletters for the Group.
  • Determine requirements and policies for practice-related current awareness and alerts.
  • Identify and create relevant client alerts on new developments.
  • Identify practice-related training needs and organize, design, and deliver Group training.
  • Train Group members on accessing knowledge resources.
  • Mentor associates.
  • Provide direct support to individual practitioners in locating knowledge resources.
  • Serve as a source of legal, market, and practical expertise for the Group, including direct support for client matters.
  • Develop and maintain the knowledge-related aspects of the Group’s Intranet site(s).
  • Establish processes to capture matter descriptions and categorizations for post-matter review of lessons learned.
  • Assist with producing closing binders and collecting valuable precedent documents.
  • Establish processes to capture and publish information about individuals with specific knowledge and experience relevant to the Group’s business in CRM systems.
  • Participate in the planning of training and other knowledge-related activities.
  • Participate in Knowledge Department meetings and liaise with other Knowledge Counsel and Lawyers.
  • Attend external training and conferences to stay updated on relevant developments.
  • Provide other knowledge support as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required to meet Firm goals and objectives.
