About The Position

Mayer Brown is an international law firm seeking an experienced lawyer to join its Knowledge Management department as a Knowledge Lawyer for the Real Estate Group. This role will be based in Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Washington, D.C., or Houston. The Knowledge Lawyer will be responsible for developing and implementing the Knowledge Strategy for the Real Estate Group, both in the U.S. and globally. This includes monitoring legal and business developments, providing legal and practical expertise, mentoring junior lawyers, managing standard forms and precedents, organizing and delivering training, and evaluating/supporting the adoption of modern legal service tools, including AI. An expertise or strong interest in exploring AI solutions is required.

Requirements

  • Lawyer with actual practice experience in a field related to Real Estate.
  • Admitted to practice in the jurisdiction where the position is located.
  • Five or more years of sound legal experience relevant to the Group as an admitted and practicing lawyer in a large law firm or corporate/financial institution legal department.
  • Deep subject-matter expertise on various aspects of Real Estate legal work and commercial issues.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
  • High professional standards with a passion for quality product.
  • Excellent drafting and research skills.
  • Well-developed organizational and communication skills.
  • Understanding of learning processes and different methods of training.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with people at all levels.

Responsibilities

  • Assess the knowledge needs of the Real Estate Group and coordinate cross-Practice efforts and AI solutions related to Real Estate.
  • Define and implement a plan to meet knowledge needs, aligned with the Group's business goals, with mechanisms for regular review.
  • Help assess and support the adoption of modern tools and processes for legal service delivery, including artificial intelligence, in collaboration with Innovation and IT teams.
  • Create and capture Real Estate-related knowledge content and encourage knowledge sharing.
  • Coordinate with other Practices to ensure consistency in Real Estate issues and policies.
  • Create and maintain an organized electronic collection of practice-related knowledge resources, including standard forms, precedents, best practices, memos, and other materials.
  • Monitor and inform the Group about important developments in law and the business environment.
  • Prepare regular current awareness newsletters for the Group.
  • Help identify and create relevant client alerts on new developments.
  • Identify practice-related training needs and organize, design, and deliver training programs.
  • Train Group members on accessing knowledge resources.
  • Mentor associates.
  • Provide direct support to practitioners in locating knowledge resources.
  • Serve as a source of legal, market, and practical expertise for the Group.
  • Develop and maintain the knowledge-related aspects of the Group’s Intranet site(s).
  • Establish processes to capture matter descriptions and categorizations, and conduct post-matter reviews.
  • Assist with producing closing binders and collecting precedent documents.
  • Establish processes to capture and publish information about individuals with specific knowledge and experience in the Firm’s CRM systems.
  • Participate in the planning of training and knowledge-related activities.
  • Participate in Knowledge Department meetings and liaise with other Knowledge Counsel.
  • Attend external training and conferences.
  • Provide other knowledge support as assigned.
