About The Position

The Kitchen Steward is responsible for washing dishes, pots, etc., and ensuring the cleanliness of the culinary area. This role involves working as part of a dishwashing crew, operating dishwashing machines, and maintaining the cleanliness of the work area. The Kitchen Steward also assists with supplying dishware to food preparation stations and cleaning larger equipment that cannot fit into the dishwashing machines.

Requirements

• Ability to work in an environment that is subject to varying levels of cold, heat, noise and vibration; the kitchen steward is subject to hazards such as wet floors; proper precautions are taken.
• Ability to effectively and efficiently move around work area.
• Ability to stand for majority of shift.
• Must be able to inspect all work performed.
• Must be able to reach, bend, squat, and carry loads of up to 50 pounds, as well as push/pull loads of up to 100 pounds so as to be able to restock all items as needed.
• Must be able to sort all silverware as needed.
• Must be able to operate machines and equipment used, but not limited to, are all dishwashing equipment after proper training.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.

Responsibilities

• Works as a member of a dishwashing crew ensuring soiled items are placed in proper racks or containers which carry them through a dishwashing machine.
• Inspects, removes, and properly stores all clean items from the dishwashing machine.
• Washes steam kettles, tilt fryers, and food preparation equipment too large to put in dishwashing machines.
• Supplies dishware to food preparation stations as needed; removes soiled dishware and cooking equipment from food preparation stations.
• Keeps work area (floor, machine, shelving, carts, etc.) clean at all times.
• Performs miscellaneous duties, such as polishing silver, working in store room and preparing for banquets, special events, etc., as assigned.
